God Bless Bitcoin - WiM Weekly
A weekly rundown of new WiM podcast releases and some food for thought
“We wanted to make a movie that explored the moral and ethical reasons to be on a sound monetary system. So the best place to look for direction on ethics and morals would be the sacred texts. That leads you directly to God and his Word. [The title, “God Bless Bitcoin,”] is almost like a prayer. It’s saying to God, can you bless this new form of money that would allow all of your people to interact with each other in an honest way where we are rewarded for the fruits of our labor and our time without anybody stealing from us?” — Kelly Estes, co-director of “God Bless Bitcoin”
The recently released “God Bless Bitcoin” documentary highlights Bitcoin as humanity's safeguard against the moral decay of fiat currency. Through this lens, Bitcoin is not merely a tool for wealth preservation, but instead a profound, ethical force—a peaceful revolution aimed at restoring freedom, fairness, and honesty in money.
“A single politician with the ability to print money can turn employees against employers, and customers against vendors. They can pit every industry against one another. This leads to riots in the streets, with people blaming shopkeepers or policemen for their distress, not realizing it's the government causing the crisis. The result is unnecessary violence, human tragedy, collapsing businesses, and families. People lose their lives because the economy is crumbling as the energy is drained out of the currency.” — Michael Saylor, Executive Chairman, Microstrategy
“In the United States, they target 2% inflation, literally saying, ‘We want to steal about 2% of your purchasing power every year.’ In years where inflation spikes to 8 or 9%, they steal it even faster. There's no honest unit of account—it's just a credit-based system. They're creating more credit, destroying purchasing power, and it's the citizens who pay for these irresponsible decisions by the government. I think that’s very immoral.” — Dr. Jeff Ross, Founder of Vailshire Capital
“Weights and measures were the way in which you'd say, ‘If I got a pound of something, I'll give you a pound of this or the equivalent.’ There’s a real warning in the scriptures, particularly in Deuteronomy, Leviticus, the Mosaic Law, and later in the Book of Isaiah and the Book of Proverbs. They use metaphors like diluting the wine with water—how fitting an image for inflationary policy, where you inflate the amount of money in the economy simply because you control the printing presses.” — Robert Sirico, Co-founder, Acton Institute
Proverbs 11:1 - A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is his delight.
“We are at a very transitional time in history. If you look back through the long lens of history, what we see is a repeated cycle of freedom, oppression, revolution. I think we're at a point in history where that cycle could finally break, and I think it could break to one side or the other. They can indoctrinate us, censor us, they can lock us down, keep us isolated, and potentially prevent any revolution from ever happening again. The other option is understanding that the source of all their power comes from the ability to print money. The money printer is their power. Bitcoin is that tool that allows us to beat the money printer, defeat their system.” — Mark Moss, Bitcoin Educator

WiM510 with Devon Eriksen
“Currency is a language through which other humans can speak to us and tell us what they care about … When we say talk is cheap, that is literally true. It is free to say something. [Verbally], we can express preferences that are performative … Because currency requires effort, I’m going to direct my efforts towards the things that I actually care about. People can look at how I spend my money and discern my real preferences. [We can] cut through this practice of deception, self-deception, and social politics and look at our actual priorities as individuals and in [society].” — Devon Eriksen

WiM511 with Mitchell Askew
"There's the common phrase, 'real socialism has never been tried,' and I made a play on that. I said, 'real free markets have never been tried' because we have a central planner of the money supply. Conservatives would agree with any other industry—you don't want central planners, you don't want price controls, right? It causes shortages and surpluses and capital misallocation, and money is no different. In fact, I would argue it's the worst industry to have centrally planned because every other industry uses money, and every other industry borrows money. And so when you have manipulation and central planning at that base layer, it bleeds into every aspect of the economy." — Mitchell Askew

How do we render the paradox of the loaves and fishes parable where inflation is used to provide for many in what is normally portrayed as a positive application of inflation?
