WiM Weekly 6/14 - The Death of the Petrodollar
A weekly rundown of new WiM podcast releases and some food for thought
“They are not manufacturing anything at all, it’s printing money. This has been one of their weapons. Globally, the monetary system controlled by the Dollar and the Euro has been used. Sanctions here, sanctions there, grabbing this account, grabbing that account has been one of their tools. This is not going to continue indefinitely. We need a new financial architecture globally. Not controlled by the Euro, not controlled by the Dollar.” - Isaias Afwerki, President of Eritrea
On June 9th, 2024, Saudi Arabia reportedly ended its 50-year agreement with the United States to sell oil exclusively in U.S. dollars, known as the petrodollar agreement. This decision allows Saudi Arabia to trade oil in various currencies, adding them to the list of nations that are increasingly disillusioned with an economic framework that grants the U.S. a disproportionate advantage.
Fiat currency is a weapon of war, and the final stage of any attempted gold standard. As the only money which cannot be weaponized, Bitcoin is an instrument of peace.

Great literature is often described as fiction, which is commonly associated with 'untruth.' However, great fiction can be better understood as an observation of general patterns detected across numerous instances of human interaction. While the stories themselves may not document actual events, they distill many experiences into one narrative arch. These myths endure because they convey deep, fundamental truths about the human condition.
“[Myths] are often a more effective vessel for delivering ideas. Reading Philosophy, many people have experience with this, is like eating cardboard…We should ask ourselves, how many Romans died for their country because they read Cicero or the Stoics closely. I bet it would it would be at least one magnitude less than the amount of Roman soldiers who read Virgil’s “Aeneid,” which is this founding story of the Roman Empire, and were motivated to imitate Aeneas…Humans are imitative creatures and not as rational as we think them to be.” - Johnathan Bi

“If you have no crisis, you can’t print money…Max Planck famously said that science progresses one funeral at a time. Normally, science will go awry for 50 years. If it’s pure science, say String Theory, how much money do you throw away? Maybe one hundred million…In Climate Science or the medical field, this gets amplified by the loop of media and government from one hundred million to several hundred billion.” - Hajo Smit

Maps of Meaning: “To perfect nature, it was necessary to harbor the correct attitude — to undertake the appropriate rituals and processes of spiritual purification; to become pure as the thing desired. The worker stood as an example to nature, in small things and great. In the case of alchemy, which ambitiously desired to “redeem” the fallen material world, the alchemist himself had to become great. Thus the alchemical literature might be regarded, in part, as one long “meditation” on the nature of the ideal man” (Jordan Peterson, 1999, page 426).
“The answer to the question, what is the meaning of life, is to take up the mantle and be the hero yourself, to be the savior yourself…Bitcoin might be the tool that enables [redemption of the fallen material world], but the implication is that us as individuals still need to do the work to become worthy of the ideal.” - Luke de Wolf

WiM480 with Peter Crone
“Life will present you with people and circumstances to reveal where you’re not free. Life is the conduit through which we get to see the constraints of our subconscious, see that they’re not valid, investigate the validity of these narratives that are based in some sort of constraint, and then discover freedom on the other side.” - Peter Crone
The full episode with Peter Crone will go live today (6/14/24) at 3:00pm EST.
